I felt better and wetter

I felt a lot better today. My strength and energy returned to almost normal.

I rode around town, taking care of some errands. I got stuck in traffic on the main street with my bicycle. I saw three men on the sidewalk, each with a bucket full of water. Their eyes were fixed on me.

Tomorrow marks the Thai New Year. It is celebrated over four days. It’s tradition to soak each other with water. April is the hottest, driest month here, so it is only fitting. In Chiang Mai, water is plentiful. They use water from the moat (which is supposedly deep).

I looked back at the men. I shook my head no. And they smiled. I put my foot down on the pedal and burst the opposite direction as fast as I could. But they were too quick. They heaved an entire bucket of water at me. Direct hit–I was drenched.

I wonder how crazy it will be tomorrow and the next day. I must arm myself.
