Led astray into a ghost town

Up until this point, I was staying in single rooms in Chiang Mai. I knew that dorms were where all the fun was. So I stayed in one this night: GongKaew Guesthouse.

I found it on hostelworld.com. It had great reviews. But it was on the opposite side of town. I thought, what the heck. Guess what though. I had an 8-bed dorm room all to myself! WTF! Where was everyone?

I tried to get some answers from the receptionist, but it was of no use. Her English was limited, and my Thai was non-existent. I decided to stay since I lugged all my gear there already. I needed to conserve energy for my health’s sake. I was still sick.

I rationalized the problem away. I got there at 10am. Maybe people would show up later. But no. No one did. There was another couple, who I assume had their own room. And a girl, who I assume stayed in the female-only dorm room. It was a freakin’ ghost town.

I caught up on my reading and slept some more.
