I started a 2-day trek today–an hour north of Pai in the mountains. There were five of us: myself (25), Olivier (21) from France, Tom (19) from England, Mathias (~38) from Germany, and Denise (~38) from Germany.
Our guides were great. They were healthy and fit. In Chiang Mai, our guides had little pot bellies and were smoking and drinking throughout the trek. This trek was much more challenging, as a result. But it was good exercise.
We spent the night at a Lahu hill tribe village. They had four girls sing to us. Then they requested that we, the trekkers, sing songs to them. It was hard at first to find a song we all knew, since we came from different countries and had three native languages among us all. I discovered that four of us knew “Mary had a little lamb,” so I started belting it out. Tom, Mathias, and Denise joined in. Then Olivier sang the French national anthem.
Then we started singing current songs. The girls got bored and left. We kept singing songs–for at least another hour.
