Soy un perdedor

It was weird being an American today. The American military left Vietnam 34 years ago today. The Vietnamese declared liberation. It was a national holiday–like their independence day. And I was in their capital city, Hanoi. It’s like being an Englishman tourist in Washington DC on July 4th.

Locals always ask where you’re from. I felt uneasy about telling them I’m Amercian today. I am proud of my country, yes. And Vietnamese people are friendly to Americans. But I didn’t want to talk about the war at all. I don’t know much about it, and I’m not into politics. I mostly kept to myself today.

It was a quiet day for me–mostly walking around and surfing the internet. I did see a 1000-year old university. That was fun.
