I decided to go to Cambodia. It’s on my way to Thailand, and it’s got Angkor Wat–the world’s largest temple.
I took a bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. A worker on the bus tried to “arrange” my visa for me for $25. I declined. I knew it was $20, and I stuck to my guns. The other tourists on the bus blindly trusted the man and gave their $25 to him. He asked me multiple times for my $25, but I ignored him. Finally he gave up.
At the border, the worker and I went to process visas (me my own and him everyone else’s). I paid $20 directly to the Cambodian border patrol. Booyah!!!
Let me tell you, folks. All he did was hand a stack of visas and twenties to the border patrol. While he kept the fives, and distributed it to himself and the driver. Don’t let bus companies process your visa.
It’s an organized scam. The hotel, who I bought the bus ticket from, told me the visa would be $25. And the bus company employee on the bus wanted to “arrange” everyone’s visas. Everyone’s in on it.
There was a major river in Cambodia that we had to cross by ferry–the whole bus. Ghetto!
I met Homan, from Hong Kong, on the bus. He is also going to see Angkor Wat and then go to Thailand. We agreed to travel together for the next few days.
