I hiked through the jungle today. It was awesome.
We were a small group: a family, me, Alvin, and the guide. Alvin is a young guy from Australia. Alvin and I talked a lot on the trek. We were the only 20-somethings there. We relished in our travel histories and hopes for the future.
The guide spoke perfect English. And he shared a wealth of information about the Highlands history and science.
I thought about what to do tonight. Should I go camping with those guys? Or try to hop two 5-hr buses to Singapore? I decided on Singapore.
I left a friendly note at the Traveler’s Lodge for Tony and Ben stating my change of plan.
I had a late lunch with Alvin. He said he was going to buy a ticket from KL to London for only $150. I was intrigued. He said AirAsia (best low-cost airline ever) started flying to/from London now. Wow. That’s exciting! AirAsia has changed the game of budget travel. I hope they add a flight to/from the US someday.
I told Alvin if he ever got out to California to give me a call. And then I headed for the bus station.
My bus left around 430pm for KL. I hoped to catch a bus from KL to Singapore tonight. I got to the KL bus station around 9pm and bought a ticket for an 11pm departure.
I was at the gate at 1045 and didn’t see a bus. Finally, it was 11pm and I still didn’t see a bus. I went back to the ticketing agent and asked where it was. He called someone and found out the bus was waiting on the street instead. Well, thanks people, why didn’t someone tell me that?
Fortunately, the man phoned around for another bus leaving for Singapore tonight. He took me to another gate and persuaded the bus driver to let me on at no extra charge. That was real nice of him. I appreciated that very much. And wow this bus was first class, let me tell you. I couldn’t kick the seat in front of me if I tried. And the seat reclined almost horizontal. Clutch!
