Jameelah felt sick and rested most of the day. I ventured to the middle of the island to ask a doctor for medicine.
I saw some children and asked them, “mana obat?” (where is medicine)
“Di sana!” (over there)
I found a doctor. He spoke little English and had some old-looking medicine.
On to Plan B: buy her a C1000 drink. It’s got 1000mg of Vitamin-C (10x the daily recommendation, and 1/2 the max tolerable). I brought it back, and I’m sure it helped.
I ventured out again–this time to explore the inner island. I had a blast. The whole inner island is a dense village. Each family has their own little plot of land. I saw lots children playing, women housekeeping, and men herding cattle and goats. I sparked a little conversation with anyone I passed. This was real travel.
We went out for dinner that evening. We saw pepperoni pizza on the menu and were delighted. How could they possibly offer that cuisine here (in the middle of nowhere)? So we ordered it. What we got was: a cheese pizza with red peppers on top. Haha. Funny. Pepper-oni. I get it.
It was the new moon tonight. And Gili Air throws a new moon party. So we went. It was on the north tip of the island (remember our room was on the south tip). We saw some excellent fire shows. And we could see the galaxies again.
I looked out at the ocean around us and saw only black. Gili Meno, to the west, was dark. Lombok, to the east, was dark. And there wasn’t another landmass to north for another 80 miles. We were way out there.
