Jameelah was most curious about the tailless cats. She worked up the courage to ask a local.
“Why are all the cats missing their tails?”
“They are a special source of protein,” the local man said. “They are good for the muscles–for sports and fighting.” He said it is a tradition of Lombok.
Lombok is the major island about 30 miles east of Bali. It’s less touristed, less crowded, and less developed than Bali. Gili Trawangan is just north of Lombok.
Jameelah and I humored the man. After all, it’s significant to his culture. However, we discussed our digust for it over lunch. Needless to say, we did not order the cat tail.
